I decided to go ahead and draw a character from each book I read this summer; here’s the first from a few weeks ago: the Lady Door Portico from Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

A quick watercolor for my cousin’s birthday; the character is his creation, and he’s actually very entertaining to work with.

I’ve always wanted to do one of these, and one afternoon in Physics it just sort of happened, so I went ahead and colored it and cut it out! It’s a doodle of one of my friends - she doesn’t really appreciate being manhandled all that much. Sorry the picture’s so blurry - I had to take it with my phone because my camera was acting up.

The Pottermore hype is rather rampant at the moment; almost all of my friends and I have been sorted into Gryffindor! This is one of my fellow Gryf’s that I doodled this morning.

The Most Astounding Fact by Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Astrophysicist Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson was asked by a reader of TIME magazine, “What is the most astounding fact you can share with us about the Universe?” This is his answer.

When you take something great, like the musings of the mind of Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, and combine it with something else great, like stunning images of life and wonder on and off of Earth … you get this.

It’s the sort of video that makes you prop your chin up in your hand, with your head tilted just so (yeah, like that), as you stare at your computer screen mumbling things like “Ahhh“ and “Wooahh” and other unintelligible noises that mean “I approve of this, and it makes me feel good.

Watch it once, then twice, then with a friend.

Everything good and real and beautiful is encompassed in this video. Well worth a watch - and then another, and then another, and then another.

The sweet, spunky, adorable Xyal belongs to the wonderful dumtweedledee, who is a very patient and understanding lady for whom I should have drawn something like this a long time ago. If I remember correctly, I actually did draw something, but it never got scanned, and this version is much nicer so I suppose it works out for the better, anyway. This style varies a bit from what I usually do, but I think it fits Xy fairly well. Love you, DJ, and I’m sorry that it took me so long!

A small concept sketch of the Boundary god from a story that nailpolish-junkie and I have been working on together.
He is extremely passive, and would let the universe fall apart around him so long as certain fundamental parameters are left unscathed. However, step even a hair’s breadth out of line and his fury will descend upon you with sudden and unrelenting intensity, and it is not likely that you will ever be forgiven.

I’ve been playing with some new ideas lately and drew this lad today while experimenting with my lovely new printer. It’s got a scanner, which is amazing and will let me update here with far greater frequency - so long as school allows me enough time to keep up with my drawings.
As far as the sketch, I’m still not quite sure where he fits in with his little story, but in essence he’s a young scrawny god who is unwillingly used as a sort of a figurehead. He was stolen from his father when he was about five or so and has been kept hidden away ever since; at current time, he is beginning to grow dissatisfied with his limited and tightly regimented existence and even his timid nature is not enough to keep him bound for much longer.

I also borrowed Tom from the same source during the same session of drawing. He was fairly cooperative, though still managed to pull through with that stubborn little frown.
He’s one of the main characters over at Nevers, which is looking to be a really unique and wonderful project which I’m very excited to see come to fruition.

Stole Atl from Bees again while doodling a while back! It’s a nice change to work in pen every once in a while because I’m forced to commit and the lines are much more distinct - of course, I manage to make it rather sketchy anyway.
